When I first heard the phrase, "The Possible Human," which was - and is - the name of a course by the enlightened and inspirational Dr. Jean Houston, it rang - a clarion - in my heart. My "Cherub" appeared as the first in a series of a series I called "the possible human" with respect and affection for the promise that phrase carries.
What are our wings? They are feelings of hope and optimism; the love we feel flowing to us and out from us; the exuberance we may feel for an instant; blessings of faith.
When we look at the human aura, we may be seeing what our wings really are - the buoyant energy that surrounds us.
More important, those wings, like every other natural organ or ability, must be used. The fact that they aren't visible to us as easily as our arms and legs doesn't mean that they are 'extra' or unreal.
Tony Kushner shows us how to use them in his big work, 'Angels in America' - to care, to give respite, to offer all of who we are. And when we do that, we transform ourselves from the possible human to the actual human, enacting our divine nature as fully as we can at any moment.
